Title: John Panagos Oral History
Author: Panagos, John
Description: John Panagos was a new member of the Kent State University faculty in May, 1970, when the shootings took place on campus. He discusses his perception that the University administration was unsure of how to handle events such as the bomb threats on campus that spring. He also describes his memories of May 4, 1970. He did not attend the noon rally, and discusses how he learned that Sandra Scheuer, who had attended his class that morning, was one of the students that had been killed in the shootings. He also describes events that followed the shootings: students and faculty trying the leave campus, roadblocks, helicopters flying over his home with searchlights, and National Guard troops at his son's elementary school.
