dc.description A senior majoring in education at Kent State University in 1970, Joann (Peterangelo) Gavacs discusses her memories from that year. She describes her classmates' and friends' attitudes about the war in Vietnam and the general mood on campus before the shootings took place. She talks about a friend who was arrested during the disturbances in Kent on Friday, May 1 and also mentions the curfew that was in effect in the city. She describes her actions on Monday, May 4; she heard the shots from her apartment near campus. She also discusses the class of 1970's graduation ceremony and students who had difficulty getting hired after graduation because of the stigma of being from Kent State.
