Title: The Scenery
Author: Cummiskey, Robert
Description: This manuscript consists of a sequence of mostly short, free verse poems in three sections that attempt to inflate the mundane and deflate the grandiose by rhetorically unfolding a series of small moments and occasionally quirky observations. These poems are primarily brief exposures and very condensed narratives in which restraint and economy of language are primary concerns, and overt sentiment is alternately embraced and deflated. There is a good deal of wry examination of various undefined relationships, particularly in the middle section, and a voice that sometimes undercuts and questions its own assertions as they are made.
