| Title: | LAND USE PLANNING AS A MEANS TO INFLUENCE URBAN TRAVEL PATTERNS: AN APPLICATION FOR THE CINCINNATI METROPOLITAN AREA |
| Author: | ABOT, ILEANA L |
| Description: | Nowadays, the patterns of land development are characterized by dispersion and lack of coordination with the larger region. There is no clear role played by planning and the current patterns seem to evolve from cumulative flows of the market. During the last 30 years, the rate of development in the Greater Cincinnati Area has been three and a half times the rate of population growth. As a consequence, the need to travel far distances and the dependence on single-occupant vehicles have increased. The manipulation of land uses has become popular as a planning strategy to reduce the rate of growth in travel demand; but there is still uncertainty on which are the most feasible and effective tools that can be applied. The present study will analyze which land use strategies can be applied and implemented in the Cincinnati region and, therefore, influence the current travel behavior. |
