Description:	The Chief Wawatam was built at the Toledo Shipbuilding Company for the Mackinac Transportation Company. Launched in 1911, the steel car ferry had a bow propeller to break ice that closed the passage between St. Ignace and Mackinac City, Michigan in winter. The Chief Wawatan was in use until 1986.
