Description: During 1918-1919 the "Puritan", built by Craig Shipbuilding Company of Toledo, Ohio in 1901, was used by the U.S. Navy to transport troops. For the first 18 years and the last 14 years she was in use, the ship sailed on the Great Lakes. In 1933 her new owner renamed her the "George M. Cox". On her first trip under her new name, she struck the Rock of Ages Reef in Lake Superior. All passengers and crew were rescued, but the ship sank May 27, 1933.
