Title: Badger State - 2111
Author: Unknown
Description: The history of the "Badger State" is similar to that of her sister ship, "Empire State", being built at Buffalo in 1862. Built by Mason & Bidwell, she operated for the Western Transp. Co. between Duluth and Buffalo. In 1908 she was owned by the Northern Transit Co. running Toledo, Cleveland and Ogdensburg. Barry Bros. Transportation Co. purchased the vessel in 1901, and in 1903 she was used in the Detroit & Cleveland Nav. Co. rate opposition war. She was rebuilt at Detroit in 1905 and reduced to a lumber barge, owned by Henry L. Loud of Au Sable, Michigan. She caught fire at her dock in Marine City, Michigan Dec. 6, 1909, and burned to water's edge.
