Built of wood in 1874 at Chatham, Ont. for the Beatty Line, which later became the Northwestern Transportation Co., she was built by Simpson and Chisholm and ran from Sarnia to Fort William and Duluth, along with the "Quebec". At the time, these two were the largest vessels in the passenger and packet freight service on Lake Superior. She was later cut down to a steam barge in the pulpwood trade. She was stranded and went to pieces near Rossport, Ont., Nipigon Bay, Lake Superior in dense fog on Aug. 10, 1899 with a cargo of coal. No lives were lost. |
