Description: On July 24, 1915 the "Eastland" turned on her port side while waiting to leave for an excursion. It took several days to locate all of the passengers, with a total of 835 lives lost. She was later sold to the U.S. government who used her as a training ship known as the U.S.S. "Wilmette". This photograph shows the "Eastland" disaster on the Chicago River.
