| Title: | A Scientific Communication Internship with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Ocean Service, Special Projects Office |
| Author: | Crum, Emily J. |
| Description: | This report describes the work I performed during my internship with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Ocean Service (NOS) Special Projects (SP) office in Silver Spring, Maryland. The first chapter of this report describes SP and my roles in the organization. As an intern, I produced a report on the socioeconomic status of an area in Delaware, developed outreach materials to support an NOS initiative, developed a Web site to support the NOAA Coastal and Marine Resources Program, and completed several smaller projects. Chapter 2 of the report describes these internship activities, while Chapter 3 describes in detail my work on the Delaware report. In Chapter 4, I use my internship experience to explore the hypothesis that teams are more likely to be successful if they follow the "rules" that define organizational communication - mainly that communication is open, ongoing, and occurs within an established framework. |
