Title: OUTREACH COORDINATOR FOR THE SECOND CYCLE OF THE UNREGULATED CONTAMINANT MONITORING REGULATION: AN OAK RIDGE INSTITUTE FOR SCIENCE AND EDUCATION FELLOWSHIP WITH THE UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY
Author: Parris, Brenda Danielle
Description: This report summarizes my activities as an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) fellow through an interagency agreement between the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Specifically, my activities include implementing the second cycle of the Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Regulation (UCMR 2). UCMR 2 is a national drinking water occurrence study that collects data for contaminants that are suspected to be present in drinking water, but do not have health-based standards set under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The occurrence data collected in UCMR, along with health effects data and cost/benefit analysis, supports EPA’s decisions to regulate or not regulate drinking water contaminants. During my fellowship, I improved data collection and analysis, implemented the Laboratory Approval Program, and expanded and enhanced outreach materials for UCMR 2.
