Description: At left is the AMERICANA and to pictured right is the WESTCHESTER steaming with its passengers to the New York World's Fair. The AMERICANA was built in 1908 by the Buffalo Dry Dock Co. in Buffalo, New York. The propeller vessel originally measured 203’ x 45’ x 15.66’, was modified in 1916 to 209.58’ x 45’ x 15.66’, and again in 1951 to 209.58’ x 45’ x 14’. Tonnage was also altered from 1009 gross tons to 969, and finally 914 gross tons. She was originally owned by Lake Erie Excursion Co. of Buffalo, NY from 1908-1924. From 1924 to 1929, she was transferred to Buffalo & Crystal Beach Corp. of Buffalo. Steamer Americana, Inc. of New York, NY took ownership of the propeller vessel in 1929-1953 where they had her decks folded over. While in New York, she ran on the Long Island Sound from The Battery to Rye Beach. In October 1953, the AMERICANA was scrapped in Baltimore, Maryland.
