Title: U.S. EPA NATIONAL HOMELAND SECURITY RESEARCH CENTER: AN INTERNSHIP REPORT
Author: Martin, Brad
Description: This report documents a six-month internship conducted at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Homeland Security Research Center (NHSRC), part of EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD). During this time I supported the NHSRC’s development by contributing to the internal and external scientific and technical communications program. Using methods and approaches taught at Miami University’s Institute of Environmental Sciences, I was able to successfully integrate myself into the daily operations of the Center and understand the complex scientific research that NHSRC undertakes. This report describes NHSRC’s purpose and background, the development of a scientific communications program to address internal and external needs, responsibilities that were undertaken as part of the internship, and a brief reflection on the experience.
