Rob Fox was an undergraduate student at Kent State University in 1970 and, in this oral history, relates his memories of the days surrounding the May 4, 1970, shootings on campus. He begins with the events he witnessed on April 30, including the burning of the ROTC Military Science Building. He discusses the National Guard presence on campus and the use of helicopters and searchlights. As a student senator, he was advised to attend the rally on Monday, May 4, as an observer. He describes the rally and the series of events he witnessed in detail, including his eyewitness account of the shootings from his position in the parking lot near Taylor Hall. He describes seeing Jeffrey Miller being shot, waiting for the ambulances to arrive, and the mood of the crowd following the shootings. |
