dc.description This case study illustrates the therapeutic alliance of a man with schizophrenia and an Art Therapy and Counseling student who also has schizophrenia. Although the diagnoses are similar, and their journeys in their recovery have taken similar paths, there are major differences. The most noticeable difference is the degree of anhedonia, or the inability to seek pleasure in the client. Furthermore, the study also explores having an addiction along with schizophrenia, a dual-diagnosis. The therapeutic alliance began two years prior to the study, when the student was completing an internship at a non-profit family based social work organization, where he had also been employed for the previous fourteen years. Both the student and the person involved in the study were clients of the organization. The artwork contained within the study had a dual role. First, the art facilitates the insight into the illness, schizophrenia, and the recovery process. Secondly, the art therapy is a factor in the actual recovery. en_US
