Description: This is one of two photographs showing the sinking of the "George M. Cox" in Lake Superior May 27, 1933 on the maiden voyage as the "George M. Cox." She was named the "Puritain" when she was built at Toledo in 1901. She struck rocks at the Rock of Ages. Even though the ship stood nearly on end, all passengers were rescued. Before the ship could be released, a severe storm dislodged her. She lies at the bottom of Lake Superior.
