The "Macassa" was built in 1888 in Glasgow, Scotland by W. Hamilton & Company. Originally owned by the Hamilton Steamboat Company, she sailed the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario out of Toronto. The ship changed owners, names, and home port and became the "Mansoo" sailing Lake Huron's Georgian Bay. The ship capsized in a storm September 15, 1928. Five people survived the sinking and were rescued from a life raft by the steamer "Manitoba." The 116 cattle on board the "Mansoo" drowned. |
