Title: A PILOT STUDY OF EXERCISE TESTING, PRESCRIPTION, AND PROGRAMMING IN A GROUP OF SENIORS WHO HAVE MILD COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT
Author: MULLER, JOHN P.
Description: This was a pilot study that sought to determine a protocol for a long-term study of the effects of exercise on Mild Cognitive Impairment. The study sought to answer four research questions based on recruitment, testing, prescription, and executing an exercise program in seniors with MCI. An extensive literature review was completed related to some of the health issues facing this population and how exercise may affect those health issues. The Senior Fitness Test was identified and used as the mode of testing the population. The American College of Sports Medicine’s guidelines for exercise testing, prescription, and programming were used extensively. Results, as well as, processes and procedures involved in the testing and programming were analyzed. The conclusions were, the measures used for exercise testing and prescription appeared to be appropriate for the subjects in this pilot study. Further research into the processes and procedures of the recruitment phase of the study and the content and duration of the exercise programming might yield a more robust insight into these areas.
