Title: WORKER SAFETY AND HEALTH PILOT STUDY TO EVALUATE A DOE LABORATORY'S COMPLIANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF PROPOSED 10 CFR PART 851
Author: KOHLER, SHARON (CORNWELL)
Description: A worker safety and health pilot study was conducted at a Department of Energy (DOE) research laboratory to evaluate compliance and related risks and liabilities included in proposed rule 10 CFR 851, Worker Safety and Health Program. The objective was to analyze evaluation findings, approaches and lessons learned for use in program implementation and execution across the laboratory and potentially across the DOE complex once the rule is finalized. The pilot study presented is a result of facility inspections and interviews with line management for approximately 200,000 square feet of facilities dedicated to metallurgical sciences with functions such as machine shop, foundry, laboratories, electroplating shop, fabrication and welding shop. A state-of-the-art beryllium facility was also included. The conclusions reached during this pilot study have been thoroughly analyzed and validated and are presented by health and safety topic area and facility, complete with graphs and recommendations.
