Description:	Born at Carlow, County Carlow, Ireland, December 23, 1839, Edward A. Higgins came to America with his parents in 1849. He studied at St. Aloysius School, Louisville, and at St. Joseph College, Bardstown, entered the Society of Jesus in 1854, taught in Cincinnati in 1858 and in 1863, was ordained priest in 1869 and appointed Provincial in 1879. Besides two terms as President of St. Xavier, he was also President at Chicago and St. Marys, Kansas. Shortly before his death he was allowed, at his own request, to return to Cincinnati, where he died December 4, 1902. --Anonymous Alumnus, The Xavier Athenaeum, July 1916
