Description: Rudolph J. Meyer was born at St. Louis in 1841. After his course in rhetoric and philosophy he began his teaching career in Cincinnati in 1865. In 1876 he returned as perfect of studies, and in 1879 was appointed rector. In addition to terms as president of St. Louis University and of Marquette University and two terms as Provincial of the Missouri Province Fr. Meyer held the office of Assistant to the General of the Society of Jesus at Rome for the English-speaking provinces of the Order under Fr. General Martine. He died while provincial, December 1, 1912. --Anonymous Alumnus, The Xavier Athenaeum, July 1916
