dc.description |
When the Cooke families gathered on Gibraltar Island for their summer vacations, picnics, swimming and boating, and parlor games such as charades were on the agenda. Here, Henry Cooke is seated in the Cooke Castle parlor, dressed as the "Matron" of the Carlisle Indian School in an elaborate skit. Carlisle Indian School was the first off-reservation boarding school for Native American Indian children. The school operated from 1879 to 1918. |
