This steel barge was built at West Bay City, Michigan by F. W. Wheeler and Company in 1896. Her gross tonnage was 3280. From 1896 until1901 she was owned by Bessemer Steamship Company of Cleveland, Ohio. She was then the property of Pittsburgh Steamship Company also of Cleveland, Ohio until 1937. In 1937, her name was changed to "Alfred." From 1937 to 1938, she was named the "Alfred J." while under the ownership of International Transportation Company of Duluth, Minnesota. In 1938, the barge was sold to Lakehead Transportation Company of Fort William, Ontario who owned her until 1943. From 1943 Great Lakes Lumber and Shipping (also of Fort William) took possession until 1949. Her name was then the "Collingdoc." Two years later Paterson Steamships Company owned her until 1962. She was last owned by Goderich Elevator and Transit Company of Goderich, Ontario. Her name was changed to K. A. Powell. She was scrapped at Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1974. |
