Title: Poling Sections of Ice from the Field

Description: A crew piking or poling sections of ice blocks from the field to the open channel. Pikes used in guiding the ice ranged in length from sixteen to twenty feet long. As ice blocks moved into and down the channel, men used chisels and breaking-off bars to separate the individual blocks.
